Nintendo did not announce Gamecube games for the Wii U Virtual Console, but it did announce a remake of one of the most popular games from the purple console. The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker will be released this fall as a HD remake for the Wii U.
Off TV play with the Wii U Gamepad was confirmed for Wind Waker HD, as was other “Game play tweaks”. Nintendo declined to say what those tweaks would be, but internet message boards exploded everywhere with speculation. Numerous requests were made for the Triforce quest to be simplified, and others wanted the sailing aspects toned down. Personally, I’ve never played Wind Waker, so I can not comment on what I would like changed. I do own the Gamecube game and if Nintendo creates a snazzy pre order bonus like they did in 2003, I’ll happily double dip.
You see, lucky Wind Waker pre orders came with a separate Gamecube disc with the original N64 version of Ocarina of Time, and a Master Quest version of OoT that changed dungeons and amped up the difficulty. If Nintendo does something similar for Wind Waker HD, I suspect many more gamers will sign up to pre order.
