Puzzle gamers will recognize Kirby’s Star Stacker, or at least the game play model it uses.  Originally a Game Boy release (black and white graphics folks) now Kirby’s Star Stacker is available for the Nintendo 3DS eSop for more gamers to enjoy.

The game starts with tiles already in the level, in Kirby’s Star Stacker they are little animals and crates, etc.  Pairs of two new tiles fall down from the top of the screen and the player has to match up four or more either up and down or left and right.  Once the sets are made they will explode off the screen and those above them fall down, if done correctly more blocks will fall down and make matches too creating large point earning combos

Gamers may recognize the game play as being similar to that of Sega’s Columns game (available on just about every Sega game re-release).  In Sega’s game, players were allowed to make sets diagonally as well as left and right or up and down.  Other titles that may be of interest to fans of Kirby’s Star Stacker include, Puyo style games like Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine from Sega and Nintendo’s Kirby’s Avalanche from the Super Nintendo.

Kirby’s Star Stacker is available now on the Nintendo 3DS eShop.
